As we conclude our series on our church's core values, we focus on a value that resonates deeply with many: being Family Focused. This value isn't just about ministering to parents and children but nurturing all family relationships, supporting each family member, and perpetuating the Christian faith from generation to generation.

Understanding the Diverse Fabric of Family

Families come in all shapes and sizes—single parents, blended families, large families, small families, and even families experiencing hurt and brokenness. The world often throws curveballs at families, leaving many feeling overwhelmed. Yet, the Bible offers hope and guidance for all families, regardless of their structure or challenges. It's crucial to recognize and support the different family dynamics within our church, including those who are widows, singles, and non-traditional families.

Choose Christ (Joshua 24:15)

Joshua’s declaration, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” is a timeless call to commitment. This powerful proclamation wasn't just for him but for his entire household. It challenges us to choose whom we will serve, a decision that impacts our personal lives, families, church, and community.

Every member of our church, whether single or part of a family, contributes to the spiritual health of our community by choosing to serve the Lord. It’s a decision that requires daily renewal and steadfast faith. Let us all embrace this choice and allow it to permeate all aspects of our lives, influencing our interactions, decisions, and priorities.

Practical Tip: Start each day with a family prayer or personal devotion time. Discuss how you can serve the Lord in your daily activities, whether at work, school, or home.

Church Commitment (Hebrews 10:24-25)

The church plays a crucial role in supporting families on their spiritual journey. We are called to be a community where families feel encouraged and equipped—a place where they can find resources and connect with others who share their commitment to serving the Lord.

Imagine the church as a greenhouse, providing a nurturing environment for families to grow and thrive. This support goes beyond programming; it requires a mindset shift. Families are not merely consumers of church services but active participants in God’s mission. We must create a culture of encouragement and accountability where every member feels supported and valued.

Practical Tip: Get involved in church activities that support families, such as family study groups or volunteer opportunities. Reach out to others and build a support network within the church.

Cherished Legacy (Hebrews 12:1)

Honoring the legacy of previous saints and their faithfulness inspires us to continue their work. Perhaps All Saints Day passed by without much thought, but it is appropriate to remember those who have gone before us, whose lives of faith continue to inspire us.

Reflect on the lives of saints in our church and family history who modeled faithfulness. Their example encourages us to persevere in our own faith journey. Highlighting the impact of past church members or family members whose faith has influenced the current congregation allows their legacy to live on in our commitment to living faithfully.

Practical Tip: Take time as a family to learn about and discuss the stories of faithful individuals from your family or church history. Share these stories with younger generations to inspire and encourage them.

Civic Engagement (Romans 13:1-2)

With Election Day approaching, it's important to consider how our faith guides our civic duties. Our faith informs our actions, including our responsibilities as citizens. We must choose leaders who uphold biblical values, particularly those related to family and religious freedom.

The Bible teaches us that the institutions of family, government, and church are given by God to provide, protect, and proclaim. When one fails, the others suffer. We are called to engage as salt and light, influencing our communities for good.

Practical Tip: Educate yourself on the issues and candidates, pray for wisdom, and exercise your right to vote. Discuss the importance of civic engagement with your family and friends.

Consistent Devotion (Deuteronomy 6:5-9)

Serving the Lord is a daily commitment that requires intentionality in every aspect of life. God’s design for discipleship starts in the home. Parents are the primary spiritual influencers in their children's lives, weaving faith into the fabric of everyday life.

It’s not about grand gestures or elaborate programs; it’s about the seemingly small, everyday choices that shape our character and influence those around us. Grandparents and parents, lead by example and teach your family the truth of God's Word. It is your business to put them in an atmosphere at home and in the church where God can save them!

Practical Tip: Establish daily routines that incorporate faith practices, such as family devotions, prayer times, and serving together in ministry. Lead by example in showing what it means to live out your faith consistently.

Conclusion

Let us reaffirm our commitment to serve the Lord, support one another, honor the legacy of the saints, and engage in our civic responsibilities as consistent acts of faithfulness. As Joshua declared, "As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord," may we too choose this day to serve the Lord with all faithfulness, partnering together as a church and as families to pass on a love for God to the next generation.
